This is the report of the second convention of the National Black Radical Political Convention
which was held from October 27-29th, 2023 in Baltimore, MD. This was a hybrid event with both in-person and online participants.
We had over 25 in-person and 30 online participants. Attendees and delegates represented the following nine (9) states:
· Florida
· Maryland
· Michigan
· Missouri
· New Jersey
· New York
· Ohio
· Pennsylvania
· Texas
NBRPC 2023 held panels and debates on the implementation of key resolutions passed during the 2022 convention, as well as the passage of several new resolutions. Previous proposals and
resolutions are listed in our NBRPC 2022 convention report.
Elected a national executive committee to lead the continuation work to enact the convention
resolutions.
1. The First order of business: Review the 2022 resolutions from the initial convention to determine the priority of tasks we would begin working on for 2024.
2. Second order of Business: Began discussion on how to develop and ratify our organizational By-Laws. By-law proposals concerning state and regional membership and leadership structure to be developed and sent out to 2023 convention attendees for an online mini-conference for review, discussion and ratification.
3. Third order of Business: It was decided that we would build a newsletter committee to handle the production of the organizational newsletter. This is a follow-up to a resolution from the 2022 convention.
4. Fourth order of Business: We affirmed that the legal status of the organization will be that of a 527 political organization. We must obtain legal status in 2024 and a subcommittee will be formed to research and apply for such status.
5. Fifth order of Business: We affirmed that we will research and set up a bank account for the new political organization.
Additional Discussion and Recommendations:
6. Video presentation and discussion regarding the endorsement of the presidential campaign of Dr. Cornell West. However, there was no final resolution made.
7. Agreed to name the formal organization: for example coalition or congress. (Note: at the post-convention meeting of the national organizing committee, ‘Congress’ was selected). We are now officially the National Black Radical Political Congress.
8. Make plans for a Bi-annual online conference to discuss the by-laws (Date to be determined).
9. Establish when, where and how organizational dues shall be paid.
10. A press release will be sent out making a statement about the formation of the National Black Radical Political Congress.
